Journey to the Middle Ages.....Day3

The name "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" means, in German, "Red fortress above the Tauber". This is so because the town is located on a plateau overlooking the Tauber River. As to the name "Rothenburg", some say it comes from the German words Rot (Red) and Burg (burgh, medieval fortified settlement), referring to the red colour of the roofs of the houses which overlook the river. The name may also refer to the process of retting ("rotten" in German) flax for linen production.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber (German pronunciation: [ˈʁoːtənbʊɐ̯k ɔp deːɐ̯ ˈtaʊbɐ] ( listen)) is a town in the district of Ansbach of Mittelfranken (Middle Franconia), the Franconia region of Bavaria, Germany, well known for its well-preserved medieval old town, a destination for tourists from around the world.

Our destination today and one I would urge you to visit, if your travels take you to Europe.  After  breakfast at the Burg-Hotel, we went to check out Rothenburg.  We had a delightful day exploring to old town and walking the paraparet around the city.  The ladies shopped and the men held their packages, thankful for the money that was being saved.  Another day of adventure.
Wall around the city.  Partially destroyed by enemy bombers(Flying B-17's) in WW11. Later restored, with assistance from the bombers country.
